Skills To Learn (Keys to the Castle!)

  • Listening (phonology): Students will learn to listen to individual words and understand how their mouth: teeth, tongue and lips make sounds in words.

  • Phonics: Students learning phonics simply apply meaning to sounds with written symbols. We use of a variety of methods to help your child remember, including: singing, rhyming, memory games, flash cards, spelling and many more.

  • Sequencing: Sequencing involves understanding and predicting what sounds come in what order when saying a word. We do this through listening and reproducing sounds as well as identifying different sounds at different parts of words.

  • Blending: Through out this stage students will blend 2 sounds, 3 sounds and even 4 or more sounds to make familiar words. Students at this stage in their development are very close to starting the reading class.
