READING CLASS
Reading isn't a natural part of human development.
It is a learned skill that can't be obtained without some form of instruction.

A Typical Day in Class
1st. 5 minutes: Children first line up outside the classroom and are ushered in by the teacher where they will be seated and take out their homework.
2nd. 10-15 Minutes: Students will take turns reading and listening while the teacher and classmates observe and give encouragement. During this time the teacher will also give advice and demonstrate good reading habits such as using phonics to decode and rereading after decoding a difficult word to gain greater understanding of the sentence. 3rd. 15-20 Minutes: Students will be given their spelling books and be reminded of how to set up their page with a title, date and table (if necessary). Students learn word families which make it easier to learn how to spell words. This also makes learning to spell incredibly enjoyable as well, as students have been encouraged to seek patterns in the phonics courses.
4th. 5 Minutes: Students have a water break, toilet break or just simply relax to absorb the information.
5th. 10 Minutes: Students are then introduced to a new phonics sound for that week and must first practice the usage of that sound through songs, chants and echos. 6th. 15-20 Minutes: Students read in whole-class, individual and pair settings. In addition, students also listen to recorded material that is available online for further practise at home. (Less work for mum and dad!) 7th. Minutes: Students finish the class with a review of what was learned followed by packing up, lining up at the door and saluting each other and the teacher good bye. |
